After three years of doing this work in Kigazi Village and Uganda…….and three years of slogging to earn the money to pay for it, battling corruption, inefficiency and indifference……there’s little if any romance left in this for me. For some time now I have done this work not because I love it but because I love Jesus and because I am sure that this is where he wants me to be and what he wants me to do…….and not because he particularly needs my limited skills but because he is a God of Justice who hates the way the poor are victimised and loves them passionately.

So for me the construction of the ‘Hospital in the Hills’ is an act of service to Jesus and to the poor and sick. But, as I returned to Kigazi yesterday after 5 weeks, as I crested the top of the mountain and saw the hospital with windows for the first time……I firstly shook my head in wonder at what God has done through us, then thanked God and then shed a tear at the hope and healing that this project will bring. Babies delivered safely, the sick healed and the old allowed to die in the village that many of them have never left. No more ‘whole-family-relocation’ to feed and care for one sick relative in the filthy hospital in Kabale. As Hildah my wife said as we saw the Hospital yesterday – ‘It’s wonderful.’

And we wrote the schedule for the completion of the project yesterday – 11 more weeks to plumb, tile, finish the plastering, finish the floors, fit solar, construct 2 more 20,000 litre water tanks, paint, dig a placenta pit and do the finishing,The ‘Hospital in the Hills’ will open in June 2013.

I am SO proud of what God has done here and so grateful for His generosity in allowing me to be part of it.
