‘How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of the messenger who brings good news, the good news of peace and salvation, the news that the God of Israel reigns!’

But those feet are bloody tired. Those feet are the feet of Simpson, the pastor of Kigezi Baptist Church and a friend to J10:10. It is through Simpson and KBC that we connected with some of the most vulnerable families and desperate children that we now care for. It is through Simpson and KBC that many of the most despised and least valued of people in the villages around Kabale are ministered to – shown and told about the love of a God that knows what it is to be poor and rejected. Simpson, his wife Evelyn, and their baby daughter Jabez go without so that others can get help.

The typical working week for Simpson looks like this:

Monday – Day off

Tuesday – House to house evangelism locally and service in Kekobo (8km round trip)

Wednesday – Kahama and back to KBC for bible study group (25km round trip)

Thursday – Church plant in Kibuzigye (25km round trip)

Friday – Church plant in Karamajura (12km round trip)

Saturday – Bible Study in Kitumba (15km round trip)

Sunday – Church services in Nyabikoni

And Simpson has been walking all of these distances for the past three years. Assuming that there are no disasters or extra journeys then Simpson walks a minimum of 85km every week. In temperatures that are always above 70 degrees Fahrenheit, currently above 80 degrees, at altitude and on terrain like that below – beautiful but challenging. It is wearing him out, reducing the time that he has with his family, stretching him to breaking point – and you never hear him complain. Many months ago Simpson said to me, ‘The places where we work are all very far away and others don’t go there because of distance but I must go and I foot so I get tired.’

Today, by the grace of God, and through the generosity of people from St. Mary’s Church in Stebbing, Essex, UK………I was privileged to be able to give Simpson a brand motorbike for him to use as he serves God and his fellow man.
