A concrete floor – in EVERY room. In ONE week

As I wrote about a week or so ago…………..December was a month of loading sand, hard-core and aggregate to allow work on the ‘Hospital in the Hills’ to re-commence in earnest this week. God gave us the money, the energy and the commitment to get this manual work done. And the commitment comes from the God-given belief that the poor deserve medical care. That income and possessions don’t reduce our value in God’s sight and shouldn’t reduce our quality of life.

There are so many wonderful stories of what God has already done through the Medical Centre that we opened nearly two years ago – more than 40 babies delivered safely, children restored to health and happiness and older villagers given relief from pain in their last days. This is who Jesus is – a healer, friend, saviour and lover of our souls. And this is where I most want to be – I hate being here in the UK when there’s work to be done. But I am comforted by the fact that the preparation work that I did in December led to a brilliant week’s work – and EVERY room now has a floor!

And I’m also so delighted by the paid work that these projects create for the men of the village. They are a key part of our work and they have gained not only money from this work but also new skills and dignity, self-respect and the respect of their community.

I hope to be back in the village grafting within a few weeks – in the meantime, like you, I can look at the photographs and marvel at all that God is doing here in Kigazi village.
