Caitie and Bekka’s visit to Uganda has had one unexpected up-side for me.  I have spent far more time than usual at the J1010 House where our 22 young charges from the village of Kigazi live whilst they attend Primary School in Kabale. Because it is (by far) the best thing that we do and because our staff (Auntie Margaret, Uncle Boaz, Auntie Mercy and Uncle Richard) are so efficient and good I don’t spend as much time as I would like there because I don’t have to!

But Caitie and Bekka have provided the catalyst for me to do something that I have wanted to do for some time – improve contact between our children and their Western sponsors. It costs J1010 about £55 per month to house, clothe, feed and educate each of these children that Jesus values so highly and we are helped with this by sponsors who generously give about half of this cost back to us. We have, in the past, delivered Christmas presents, birthday presents, letters and cards from the UK to Uganda and these have caused SUCH joy for our children. This year we celebrated Christmas in February and where sponsors hadn’t had chance to send a Christmas present we bought a few ourselves in your names so that every child had something to open!

And so, over the past ten days, Caitie and Bekka have been teaching the children how to use email. And each of our children has composed a short email to their sponsor which have now nearly all been sent (check your spam folders!) The emails really show the level of appreciation, gratitude and affection that the J1010 kids feel for their sponsors and it was a joy to watch them composed. Some are heart-warming and tear-jerking at the same time.

I also took up-to-date photos of all our kids and, as part of my resolution to strengthen links between sponsors and children I’ll be getting these out over the weekend.

And then we all went to play football and eat meat at a local restaurant. I love treating these kids. GOD loves treating these kids.
